Frequently Asked Questions

What portion is a member responsible for before sharing occurs?

Member Responsibility Amount (MRA) is the amount ASH members are responsible to pay for a medical event. The MRA per accident for SHARE Accident is $250. After the member pays the first $250, then ASH will share up to the accident sharing maximum amount based upon the level selected as long as all other Guidelines are met.

There is no MRA for SHARE Critical.

What are the waiting periods?

SHARE Critical has a 60-day waiting period. ASH members do not share in a need that occurs during the first 60 days of membership.

There are no waiting periods for SHARE Accident.

Are there Pre-Existing Condition Restrictions?

SHARE Critical has a 12-month Pre-Existing Condition limitation. There is no sharing for a Pre-Existing Condition during the first 12 months of membership. A Pre- Existing Condition is a condition for which: (a) Medical advice or treatment was recommended by, or received from a Doctor, within the Pre-Existing Period shown above; or (b) symptoms existed which would cause an ordinarily prudent person to seek diagnosis, care or treatment within the Pre-Existing Period before the Effective Date of Membership. Treatment includes being prescribed or taking prescription drugs or medicines. Specified Disease Sharing is only available for a first time ever procedure or diagnosis for the member for the specific condition included in the Sharing Descriptions and definitions.

SHARE Accident does not share for reinjury or complications of an injury caused by a condition that existed before the accident.

There are no Pre-Existing Condition restrictions on the Accidental Death & Dismemberment sharing.

Is there a required treatment period in order for my need to
be eligible for sharing?

The SHARE Accident program requires that the first treatment or service must occur within 60 days of the sharable accident and all subsequent treatments must occur within 12 months of the sharable accident.

SHARE Critical does not have a required treatment period.

At what point are ASH Members no longer eligible for participation in this sharing option?

Eligibility for the SHARE Critical & Accident option ends on the earliest date that the member turns 65 or the date ASH Members have shared the maximum amount for the sharing level selected.
