Frequently Asked Questions

What portion is a member responsible for before sharing occurs?

Member Responsibility Amount (MRA) is the dollar amount that a member must pay before ASH will share in eligible vision services. Please refer to the Vision Highlights page in your Member Guidelines to see what the MRA is for certain vision services. After the member pays their MRA, then ASH will share up to the maximum shareable amount as long as all other Guidelines are met.

Where can I find details regarding shareable vision services and
exclusions for the program?

Members will receive a “Welcome” email from ASH which contains registration instructions for our secure, online member portal,  www.healthsharejoin.com/members . On the Member Portal, members can manage their account and access their sharing information, including
Member Guidelines. Members should read through all their materials carefully, and contact Customer Service if they have any questions.

Can I use an out-of-network provider?

Yes, but if you use an out-of-network provider, you may incur higher out of pocket costs. The amount that ASH shares for eligible vision services performed by in-network providers is different than the amount shared for those same services done by out-of-network providers.

What is the difference between Elective and Non-Elective Contact Lenses?

Non-elective contact lenses, also called medically necessary contact lenses, are prescribed by your optometrist to correct medical conditions such as aphakia, anisometrophia, and keratoconus. Whereas elective contact lenses are chosen by the patient for a vision correction that eyeglasses or sometimes laser surgery can also correct.

Please refer to the Vision Highlights page in your Member Guidelines to see what the shareable amount is for elective and non-elective contact lenses.

Where can I buy contact lenses?

Members can get contacts at their VSP network doctor or online at Eyeconic®, where you can easily connect your membership to receive additional savings.
